The Branch and the Shadow

The brain is a deterministic cocycle solver on an ultrametric tree. Conscious experience is the Monna projection of that navigation. Probability is epistemic. Determinism is absolute.

Monna Lens Demo

Hover over the Archimedean line and watch the ultrametric tree collapse. See the many-to-one projection in action.

Triangle Tester

Upload distance matrices or generate test data. Verify the strong triangle inequality — the signature of ultrametricity.

🧩

Cocycle Visualizer

Watch cognitive dissonance resolution in real time. Three belief patches, one cocycle condition, gradient descent to δω=0.

The Core Framework

The Three Pillars

Ultrametricity: The brain's representational space is a Bruhat-Tits tree — hierarchical, branching, obeying the strong triangle inequality. Every triangle is isosceles with a short base.

Cocycle Condition: δω = 0 — the algebraic rule that glues local sensory patches into a globally consistent percept. Violation = cognitive dissonance. Resolution = gradient descent on the cocycle norm.

Monna Map: The many-to-one projection from the non-Archimedean tree onto the Archimedean timeline. Erases branching structure. Turns deterministic paths into apparent probability distributions.

Key Implications

DomainImplication
ProbabilityEntirely epistemic — a measure of missing branch information, not fundamental randomness
DeterminismAbsolute. The tree exists in its entirety. The universe never collapses.
SuperdeterminismNatural inference — hidden variables are the fine branches of the tree
Free WillThe first-person experience of the cocycle solver navigating toward δω = 0
ConsciousnessThe qualitative feel of being a glued structure — topological invariants under projection
TimeEmergent from the Monna projection of a timeless tree onto a sequential line
Epistemology/OntologyDissolved — epistemology is ontology viewed through coarse-graining
Wheeler–DeWittδω = 0 is isomorphic to ĤΨ = 0 — both timeless constraint equations
